1. Is there a charge for the program?
This is a free program to the schools. Sports World is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization which relies on donations from individuals and businesses nationwide to fund our assembly programs. If your school has a budget for these types of assemblies or drug-free programs, a donation is greatly appreciated. Checks can be made out to Sports World and sent to 1919 South Post Road, Indianapolis, IN 46239. Invoices and other documentation (such as our IRS determination letter) are available upon request. You can also donate online from our website by clicking here.
2. How long is the program?
Each assembly typically lasts about 35-45 minutes. However, programs can be customized to fit your school’s schedule. If schedules allow, the pro can stay after the assembly for a few minutes to talk with students, answer questions, and sign autographs.
3. What grade levels are appropriate for an assembly?
The Sports World program is suitable for grades 3 through 12. Programs for college-age students are also available. Each assembly is customized for each audience and is age-appropriate.
4. What size audience is acceptable for an assembly?
The Sports World pros are experienced speakers that can handle any size audience. A school should allow as many students to attend an assembly as their facilities allow. Small group presentations can be scheduled as well, please call the Sports World office for more details at (800) 832-6546.
5. Can a school have more than one assembly?
Yes. It is very common for schools to separate their student body into two, sometimes even three sessions.
6. What does the pro talk about in an assembly?
The Sports World speaker will share personal life experiences with the students, helping them to recognize the consequences of their choices while challenging them with the message of hope. The program’s main theme is that "You’re Not Born a Winner, You’re Not Born a Loser – You’re Born a Chooser"™
The importance of morals, values, education, and proper decision-making will be stressed along with a clear presentation on the dangers and consequences of drug and alcohol use. Near the end of the presentation, the pro will share in a non-threatening way how their personal faith in God has helped to overcome and/or avoid these issues in life.
If your school has a particular issue that is more of a concern than others, the pro can stress that topic during the assembly. Please advise the pro prior to the assembly and the talk will be tailored accordingly.
7. What will the pro need as part of the assembly?
All the pro will need is a microphone, if available. The pro will bring everything else that is needed, including enough pro player cards for each student and response cards to capture student feedback.
8. Can I audio or videotape the Pro’s presentation?
It is Sports World’s policy that the pro NOT be audio or video taped at your school, unless pre-approved in writing through the Sports World national office. Please call (800) 832-6546 for more information.
9. Does the pro need transportation or directions to our school?
No. The pro will be accompanied by a local volunteer who is familiar with your area. Our volunteers will take care of all logistical details for you.
10. Can Sports World provide recommendations from other schools that have had the program?
Yes. Sports World speaks in close to 2,000 assemblies to 500,000 students each school year. We can provide a list of schools, administrators, and phone numbers from all across the country. Please call (800) 832-6546 for details.
11. Where can I find information about the pro coming to my school?
You can view each of the Sports World pro’s bios and short video clips on Sports World’s website. Publicity posters and other materials are also available upon request. Please call the Sports World office for more details at (800) 832-6546.
12. After scheduling an assembly, will our school receive any additional information in the mail?
Yes. A confirmation letter will be sent explaining all the details about your assembly. In addition, a week prior to your assembly our office will call your school for a final confirmation and answer any last minute questions.
13. Our school does not have an auditorium available to use. Can we still have an assembly?
Of course! If your school does not have an auditorium, a gymnasium or even a cafeteria can be places to congregate your students.
